Calcite from Longyan Mine, Fujian Province, China

A very colorful specimen from a recent find of gemmy Calcite from the Longyan mine in Fujian, China. It features numerous lustrous, bright canary-yellow Calcite rhombohedrons arranged into the nicely balanced composition pictured. The Calcite is strongly fluorescent, exhibiting different reactions to longwave and shortwave UV light (see below), and is also PHOSPHORESCENT under shortwave UV light. In excellent condition, and quite showy for display as shown.

.A very uncommon and quite extraordinary specimen of cream-soda colored Fluorite from Henan, China. This is a large cabinet-sized cluster of Fluorite crystals that exhibit a basic cubic form but with intricately stepped faces that give it an attractive waxy luster and a texture reminiscent of lizard skin. As the photos show, it is beautiful whether lit from the front or from behind. It also FLUORESCES an eerie yellowish-orange color under both shortwave and longwave UV light, where it strangely appears to be opaque rather than translucent as it is under normal lighting (not shown). Sawn flat on the backside for optimum presentation. Fantastic color and contrast, a nicely balanced composition, and a some very special details all add up to make this an exceptionally attractive display specimen.

A very uncommon specimen of violet purple Fluorite from an old find in Xinjiang, China. It features a handsome array of inter-joined Fluorite crystals that exhibit a rich purple color and a highly modified crystal habit. An amazing and quite beautiful specimen of cubic Pyrite from Spain. It features three MIRROR-BRIGHT cubes of golden Pyrite intergrown with one another to create a fantastic formation that is quite attractive no matter which side you view it from. MUCH SHINIER in person. I purchased this cluster directly from the mine owner, who informed me that virtually all such “chains” of Pyrite cubes from this locality are reconstructed after removal from the hard clay host rock, this piece is no exception . A really choice example of this material, with a very graceful composition that is dazzling all the way around. I’ve included a short VIDEO showing all sides of the specimen.

A large and quite attractive specimen of polished Orthoceras fossils from Morocco. It features an over five pound piece of Orthoceras cleverly carved into the shaped of a book. Even though much of this material is available, these “books” are very hard to find; I was lucky to find one dealer with a few of these at the Tucson show several years ago. This particular book is very special in that it has “THE FOSSIL BOOK” engraved on the side.
