Boldut Mine, Cavnic, Maramures Co., Romania
19.2 x 16.0 x 4.3 cm.
A unique and quite attractive large-cabinet specimen from the Boldut mine in Cavnic, Romania. It features an epimorph (cast) of Quartz crystals that were coating the surface of former Calcite crystals which have dissolved away while still in the Earth. The backside of this remarkable specimen exhibits the negative impressions of the now missing Calcite crystals, as seen below, and the surface of the Quartz casts are sprinkled with countless tiny crystals of Chalcopyrite. The specimen is extemely light (only 10 ounces) for its size. Loads of beautiful details for you to explore all over. Perfect presentation for display and in excellent condition. These mines are now permanently closed, so don't let this one disappear.
